Tonight we immerse ourselves in the week ending July 20, 1967. Vintage commercials, an authentic Top 10 countdown and listener requests from what many listeners agreed may have been the peak year for Top 40 Radio  -  although most of those who weighed in were coincidentally just coming of age in 1967. Hmmm…..

Rock and Roll Trivia

Clue 1:  This American born multi-instrumentalist has co-written a # 1 song, appeared on records by the Rolling Stones, The Who and Jimi Hendrix, and discovered and produced records for one of the seminal Southern Rock bands of the ‘70s.

Clue 2:  He left an acclaimed NYC band in the mid-sixties to form one of the first hugely successful horn bands of the Rockin’ Remnants era, and left that band to record a “supergroup” album with Stephen Stills and another friend.

Clue 3:  His most infamous recording session may be the one where he talked his way into the studio for Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone,” playing an instrument he’d never played before.  By the time producer Tom Wilson realized the ruse, the musician had been playing along with Dylan and crew. His organ can be heard coming in an eighth-note just behind the other members of the band, as he followed to make sure he was playing the right chords. During a playback of tracks in the control room, when asked about the organ track, Dylan was emphatic: "Turn the organ up!"
