If I Were A Carpenter – Bobby Darin (1966, #8: Tim Hardin is probably known as a songwriter more than singer, but we'll hear him later in the show.)
Genesis - Jorma Kaukonen (1974, dnc: from Jorma's first solo LP, "Quah", this song got a lot of FM radio airplay, as did his other group, Hot Tuna.)
Holy Cow - Lee Dorsey (1966, #23).
Urgent – Foreigner (1981, #4; featuring the blistering sax solo from Jr. Walker)!
River Deep, Mountain High – Ike & Tina Turner (1966, #88, 1968, BU #112
Black Pearl - Checkmates LTD., #13, 1969
The former was Phil Spector's grandest "wall of sound" production, and also his biggest flop. The latter is his last foray onto the BB Hot 100 Top 20. A sad ending to a great talent... Click here to see his bio.)
Soul Deep – The Box Tops (1969, #18).
Free Ride (45 version) - Edgar Winter Group (1973, #14; written and sung by Dan Hartman.)
As Tears Go By - Marianne Faithful (1965, #24).

Time for a little Rockin' Remnants Trivia! We're giving away a gift card to Papa John's and a pair of tickets to Cinemapolis! The clue is in the next 4 songs:
Spanish Harlem – Ben E. King (1961, #10).
Born Under A Bad Sign - Albert King (1967, dnc).
Paying The Cost To Be The Boss - B.B. King (1968, #39).
Smackwater Jack - Carole King (1971, #14).
Which of these artists was born with the surname "King"?
The answer will be at the end of the blog!
8pm - 9pm
Listen People - Herman's Hermits (1966, #3; written by Graham Gouldman).
Where Were You When I Needed You - Grass Roots (1966, #28).
Willie And The Hand Jive - Eric Clapton (1974, #26: the original version by The Johnny Otis Show peaked at #9 in 1958.)
Love Is In The Air - John Paul Young (1978, #7; written and produced by Harry Vanda and George Young [The Easybeats, AC/DC]).
(There's) Always Something There To Remind Me - R.B. Greaves (1970, #27 ; of the 6 charting versions of this Bacharach-David tune, the highest-charting version was by the British Synth-Pop duo Naked Eyes, #8, 1983.)
Venus - The Shocking Blue (1970, #1).
It's No Secret - Jefferson Airplane (1966, dnc).
All The Way From Memphis (45 version) - Mott The Hoople (1973, dnc).
*Hair - The Cowsills (1969, #2).
Hotel California - The Eages (#1, 1 week, 1977).
*Reason To Believe - Tim Hardin (1965, dnc: popularized in 1971 by Rod Stewart and also the b-side of "Maggie May.)
Tonight in the Corner is birthday-boy Jimmy Buffet and the single version of "Margaritaville". Released on ABC Records in the Spring of 1977, it peaked at #8, Jimmy's biggest hit record. The LP version clocks in at 4:09, while the 45 version is 3:20, the difference being the marimba solo being lopped off the 45.
While a lot of 45 versions are being uploaded to YouTube, I could not find this, so it remains unique to the 7" vinyl.
Owner Of A Lonely Heart (45 version) - Yes (1984, #1, 1 week).
I Can Dream About You - Dan Hartman (1984, #6; from the movie Streets Of Fire, which I viewed recently. Great song, so-so flick).
Answer to Trivia:
B.B King is the only artist I played with the surname of King.
Ben E. and Albert are Nelson, and Carole is Klein. Congratulation to Robin from Ithaca who won the Papa John's gift card and pair of passes to Cinemapolis!
CLOSING THEME: Sleepwalk – Santo & Johnny (1959, #1 for two weeks)
