Daydream Believer - The Monkees (1967 - #1: Peter Tork, who played bass, banjo, and keyboards for the group, came up with the piano intro for the song, which was written by John Stewart; Stewart said that the song "didn't just pay the rent.  It kept me alive all these years."  The song was turned down by We Five and Spanky and Our Gang, and it was said that lead singer Davy Jones was not happy that The Monkees recorded a reject, but it was a big hit for the group)





In and Out of Love - Diana Ross and the Supremes (1967 - #9: another hit for the Motown songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland; Florence Ballard left the group after this song because she did not like the direction they were going)
