Tonight on Rockin' Remnants, we check out the Billboard Hot 100 sounds of early Spring, 45 years ago.  Every week we listened to American Top 40 with Casey Kasem, and charted the singles as they went up and down the chart.  In the 45 Corner it's Yes, a rather extensive Birthday Calendar, and a chance to win Dinner and a Movie from Papa John's and Cinemapolis!

6pm - 7pm

Before we get to our Chart Date, a flurry of Chuck Berry cover versions, by 3 of the all-time greats: The Beatles, The Stones and the Beach Boys!

"Roll Over Beethoven" - The Beatles, 1964

"Bye Bye Johnny" - Rolling Stones, 1964

8pm - 9pm

More birthdays and more from our chart date!

Today Sir Elton John celebrates his 70th birthday!  Most everyone know his Top 40 hits from the 70's (he was, afterall, the #1 Hot 100 artist of the decade).  But, he also received FM airplay from his album tracks.  Tonight on Remnants, we have 4 of those tracks from his albums.  We also have tracks (hits) from Nick Lowe, Hoyt Axton, ELP, The Stylistics, Jerry Reed, Chaka Kahn w/Rufus, Eddie Money and Rick Ocasek.  It's a loaded calendar!

"No Shoe Strings On Louise" - Elton John, 1970

"Burn Down The Mission" - Tumbleweed Connection, 1970

"Mona Lisas And Mad Hatters" - Honky Chateau, 1972

"Roy Rogers" - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, 1974

"So It Goes" - Nick Lowe, 1979

"When The Morning Comes" - Hoyt Axton, 1974

Hoyt was better known for his songwriting ("Joy To The World", "Never Been To Spain", "The Pusher") than his singing, but he had a friendly voice and with a young Linda Ronstadt on duet vocals, this was a big local hit although it only limped up to #54 on the Hot 100.

"Hoedown" - ELP, 1972 - Drummer Carl Palmer is the last surviving member of this progressive rock trio, with both Keith Emerson and Greg Lake passing in 2016.

"Betcha By Golly Wow" - The Stylistics, 1972 - On our chart this date at #18, this features the lead vocals of one of my favorite falsetto vocalists, Russell Thompkins, Jr.

"Amos Moses" - Jerry Reed, 1970

"Once You Get Started" - Rufus featuring Chaka Kahn (a 70's fox)

"Trinidad" - Eddie Money, 1980

"Emotions In Motion" - Ric Ocasek, 1986 - The main songwriter for The Cars, this was his only Top 40 hit, peaking at #15.

Chart Date!

Vincent - Don McLean - BB Hot 100 #53 - While "American Pie" was slipping down the chart, this was ascending and would peak at #12.

Slippin' Into Darkness - War - BB Hot 100 #41
