You Showed Me - The Turtles - BB Hot 100 #7 - The chart run of the Turtles ended here with this single peaking one notch higher. From then on, stick a spoon in them; turtle soup : )
This Magic Moment - Jay & The Americans - BB Hot 100 #8 - This band, also nearing the end of their chart run, put out an album in 1969 called "Sands Of Time", which contained all "oldies" covers, including this one of the Drifters classic.

I'm Gonna Make You Love Me - Diana Ross And The Supremes & The Temptations - BB Hot 100 #10
45 Corner
Tonight in the corner is "River Deep - Mountain High" by Deep Purple. This pop nugget seems an unlikely cover for these progenitors of Heavy Metal, but DP Mach 1 was definitely more pop oriented with Rod Evans on lead vocals. When Evans departed and Ian Gillian came on board, DP cranked up the amps and vocal histrionics and, well, the rest is music history! The last offering with Evans, was an edited version from the LP Book Of Talysien (trimming 7 minutes). The 45 version, released on Tetragrammaton Records, was in stereo, and spent 5 weeks on the Hot 100 and peaked this week at #53. Click here to hear the 45 version.
Baby, Baby Don't You Cry - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - BB Hot 100 #11 - Happy 77th birthday to Smokey and Miracle Bobby Rogers on Feb. 19th!
Hooked On A Feeling - B.J. Thomas - BB Hot 100 #22
Time Of The Season - The Zombies - BB Hot 100 #37 - Check out this groovy video clip which features the band (barely) and some great images of the Swingin' 60's!

Lou Christie (ne Lugee Sacco) is one of my favorite falsetto vocalists; his vocal swoops are amazing! Here his first Top 40 hit and his last one, too.

"Crazy Love" - Poco, 1979 - Founding member and steel guitarist Rusty Young on lead vocals.

"The Inner Light" - The Beatles, 1968
"Got My Mind Set On You" - George Harrison, 1988 - The first song was credited to The Beatles, but was actually just George with Indian musicians recorded at EMI Studios in Bombay and originally released on the flip-side of "Lady Madonna"; spent 1 week on the Hot 100 at #98. The solo single spent 1 week at #1 on the Hot 100 on 1/18/1988.
"Fresh As A Daisy" - Emmit Rhodes, 1971 - Emmit never had the credit he deserved as leader of The Merry-Go-Round and 70's singer/songwriter. If you click here, you can read all about it.
Rockin' Remnants Trivia: Name the artist that had Hot 100 charting songs with covers of both "Proud Mary" and "River Deep-Mountain High".
