You Got Me Hummin' - Cold Blood (stalled in its second week at #104, eventually headed to #52. Lydia Pense fronted this, the Bay Area's second-greatest horn band.)

* A Brand New Me - Dusty Springfield (after Dusty recorded in Memphis, she did an album in Philly  -  produced by Gamble & Huff. This single peaked at #24)

She - Tommy James & Shondells (at #24, headed to #23)

Mind, Body & Soul - Flaming Ember (this white band from Detroit had taken this one to a peak of #24 for Holland-Dozier-Holland's record label)

Didn't I (Blow Your Mind) - Delfonics (debuting at #99, headed to #10 Pop, #3 R&B and a Grammy Award for best Vocal Group Recording of the year)

Oh Me, Oh My (I'm a Fool For You) - Lulu (at #66, headed to #22 Pop  -  one of the lushest records of the year!)

45 Corner : Wichita Lineman - Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66 (this A&M Records 45 spent two weeks on the Pop chart in December 1969, peaking at #95. A Rockin' Remnants exclusive just for you!)

He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother - Hollies (at #83, slowly headed to a peak of #7. The uncredited piano player was a struggling neophyte named 'Elton John.')

Sunshine Superman - Donovan (9/66; #1 - Donovan's sole #1 record was produced and arranged by the man who played the bass on it: birthday guy John Paul Jones!)

For What It's Worth - Buffalo Springfield (1/67; #7 - Stephen Stills' crowning achievement as a member of the band)

The Sweetest Thing This Side Of Heaven - Chris Bartley (7/67; #32 Pop, #10 R&B - one of the sweetest Soul ballads of the Sixties, written and produced by Van McCoy)

I Get The Sweetest Feeling - Erma Franklin (1/70; dnc - using the same backing track as Jackie Wilson's hit version from 1967, this was also written and produced by the under-appreciated Van McCoy)

Here, There & Everywhere - The Fourmost (9/66; #120 - one of the great songs from The Beatles' "Revolver," this single was arranged and produced by Sir George Martin and just missed the Hot 100.)

Take Her Back - Gemini (bubbling under, headed to #119 - from the "bubblegum" writer/producer Joey Levine, this Tokens soundalike deserved a higher chart position....)

Someday We'll Be Together - Diana Ross & Supremes (at #2, down from a peak of #1 - ostensibly "the final single by The Supremes" didn't even have any Supremes other than Diana Ross on it. It was, indeed, the final #1 record of the Sixties. Sigh.)

She Lets Her Hair Down (Early In The Morning) - Don Young (peaking on this date at #104 - three different versions of this adapted shampoo commercial jingle were released simultaneously, and they each managed to dilute the impact of a terrific song.)

* (They Long To Be) Close To You - Carpenters (7/70; #1 for four weeks - from the pens of Bacharach and David.)

* The Bells - The Originals (2/70; #12 - co-written by Marvin Gaye with Anna Gordy and Johnny Bristol, this was the second big single for these Motown journeymen who had lived in the shadows of the Four Tops, Temptations and Miracles.)

* Compared To What - Les McCann & Eddie Harris (peaking on this date at #85 - written by the great Gene McDaniels)

Sunday Mornin' - Oliver (down to #59 from a peak of #35 - Top Forty reinterpretation of the Spanky & Our Gang hit from 1968.)

45 Corner:  Walking In The Rain - Reparata & The Del-Rons (12/69; dnc - Kapp Records had high hopes for this tasty re-working of the Ronettes hit. Unfortunately for Kapp, Jay & The Americans had also planned to release a version. U-A rush-released it with the words "Sorry, Reparata" etched into the end wax.)

* Hey There Lonely Girl - Eddie Holman (headed to #2 - soaring falsetto cover of the 1963 Ruby & The Romantics hit)

Come Saturday Morning - Sandpipers (on #87, headed to a peak of #17 - from the Liza Minelli film "The Sterile Cuckoo.")

* More Today Than Yesterday - Spiral Starecase(4/69; #12 - one of the great horn-driven singles of 1969, featuring the soulful voice of Pat Upton.)

* The End (Of The Rainbow) - Earl Grant (9/58; #7 - best known for his keyboard skills, Earl Grant recorded this beautiful record in the style of the great Nat "King" Cole. We close tonight's show with it and say 'thank you and goodnight.')
