Date: September 14, 2013
Host: John Rudan
Feature: 1972
There is a moment in time when you discover music on the radio. I mean really DISCOVER MUSIC! For me (JR) that was the Summer of 1972. I became an avid AM radio listener, listening locally to WTKO 1470, and also having stations like WABC (NYC), WLS (Chicago), WHAM (Rochester), WHEN (Syracuse) and WOWO labeled on my early 70’s AM/FM/Cassette player to listen deep into the night. I also became an avid 45 collector, checking the Billboard Hot 100 @ Discount Records in Collegetown (driving the clerks crazy) and tuning in every week to hear Casey Kasem on American Top 40, broadcast locally by WICB-FM.
This week’s show is dedicated to that awesome Summer of ’72! Here on Rockin’ Remnants we delve deep into JR’s 45 collection, with much original vinyl spinning on the turntables; be prepared for some skips and scratches : )
We’ll also be giving away not 1, not 2, but 3 Papa John’s Pizzas, with our Remnants Trivia questions all tying in to our chart date!
The first hour of the show tonight, we’ll hear songs making their chart debuts and climbing up the BB Hot 100 in the late summer of 1972. After the birthday calendar at 7:00, we’ll return to the chart on this date 41 years ago to check out the biggest hits on the Hot 100 and every 90 minutes on the AM radio!
