Host:  John Rudan (JR)

Feature:  Golden Oldies

 6pm-7pm

Indian Lake - Cowsills - 1968 - A killer bass line and a Summertime Classic!

Sea Of Heartbreak - Don Gibson - 1961

Sweet Blindness - 5th Dimension - 1968

The Letter - The Arbors - 1969

Double Barrel - Dave And Ansil Collins - 1971 - Dave Barker was a Jamaican "toaster" who improvised the vocals, similar to Astro of UB40.  Hmm, maybe that'll be later  ???

How'd We Ever Get This Way - Andy Kim - 1968

It Was A Very Good Year - Frank Sinatra - 1966 - Someone should have told Frank that fine wine ages in barrels, not kegs! 😁

Ramblin' Rose - Nat King Cole - 1962 - Come on everybody!

Holly Holy - Neil Diamond - 1969 - One thing I really liked about Neil's singles in this era were their spirituality (was there any doubt after this and "Brother Love"?).

Love Potion Number Nine - Searchers - 1965

Your Wildest Dreams (45 version) - Moody Blues - 1986

Nils Lofgren - Shine Silently - 1979 - Nils released so much great music through the early 80's but never had a hit single.  Shame.

Sea of Love - The Honeydrippers - 1984 - Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Nile Rodgers with Ahmet Ertegun producing!  Too bad this band never played live...

 Young Blood - The Coasters - 1957

Things - Bobby Darin - 1962 - The female vocalists make this a special record!

I Want You - Bob Dylan  - 1966 - Couldn't resist throwing in another "Bobby"!

7pm - 8pm

Birthday Calendar - There is a dearth of birth this past week, so we'll have The Dead for Jerry, a Rick Derringer anthology, and two from B.J. Thomas who passed on May 29, 2021.

August 1 - Jerome John Garcia - 1945

Not Fade Away/Goin' Down The Road Feeling Bad - Grateful Dead - 1971

August 5 - Ricky Dean Zehringer - 74

Rick Derringer is associated with the following artists:

Another One Rides The Bus - Weird Al - 1981

Making Love Out Of Nothing At All - Air Supply - 1981 - Rick called this his all-time favorite guitar solo!  High praise, eh?  Take a listen...

Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler - 1983 - In the early 80's Rick worked sessions for producer Jim Steinman.

Chain Lightning - Steely Dan - 1975 - What a tasty solo!  Check out the video...

August 7 - Billy Joe "B.J." Thomas - 1942

Billy And Sue - 1966

Rock and Roll Lullaby - 1972

No Regrets - Tom Rush - 1974

Mississippi (45 version) - John Phillips - 1970

Do You Know What I Mean - Lee Michaels - 1971

I Thank You - ZZ Top - 1981 - R.I.P. bassist Joseph Michael "Dusty" Hill on July 28th, age 72.

Heart Of The Night - 1979 - Poco - R.I.P guitarist/vocalist Paul Cotton on August 1st, age 78.

You Were On My Mind - We Five - 1965 - Live on the "Hollywood Palace", introduced by Fred Astaire!

8pm - 9pm

Raised On Robbery - Joni Mitchell - 1973 - How many other singles mention the Toronto Maple Leafs?  Robbie Robertson on guitar, making this a real Canadian affair!

Red Red Wine - UB40 - 1988 - The first single release in 1984 edited out the "toasting" (rap) and stalled at #34.  Rerelease in '88 featured the toasting by Astro and reached #1!

Frank Mills - Music Box Dancer - 1978 - You know you know this song, but it's an instrumental and SO darn catchy that the title eludes you... Listen!

D.I.Y. - Peter Gabriel - 1978

But You Know I Love You - The First Edition - 1969 - A "live" clip from The Smothers Brothers show!

Bluebird - Buffalo Springfield - 1967

Phantom Writer - Gary Wright - 1978

Magic Town - The Vogues - 1965 - A lesser known effort from the Mann/Weil songwriting team, but a fine song nonetheless.

45 Corner

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd - 1979 - This was never officially released as a single in the U.S., but appeared as the B-side of the "Run Like Hell" promo single.  The 45 version was created by totally eradicating the second verse and the first guitar solo!  Check the video, but beware Floyd fans 😡

 - Woman From Tokyo - Deep Purple  - 1973
Had to play this for the Olympics!

If The Lights Go Out - The Hollies - 1984 - This Hollies "reunion" LP spawned a Top 40 hit with a cover of "Stop In The Name Of Love".  This was the track played by FM stations.

Big Love - Fleetwood Mac - 1987 - One of the iciest cold endings, ever!

Swamp - Talking Heads - 1983

You Tell Me Why - Beau Brummels - 1975 - This San Francisco quartet chose their name to be right behind The Beatles in record store racks!
