Date:  October 27, 2018
Host:  JR
Feature:  TV on the Radio

Tonight we are featuring pop songs that are currently or recently used in Television commercials!  This is a long-standing practice for retailers, and seems to have usurped any notion of "jingles", because it's cheaper to license music and it has appeal to "Baby Boomers", the ones who grew up listening to them and have the $$$ to buy.
I have found video links to most of the songs, and you just have to click on the title to view.  It was a fun show, and hope you have fun checking out
"TV on the Radio!"

[yellow song titles are YouTube links; songs with * were requests; all chart information comes from the Billboard Top 100 (for chart dates before/during July 1958) or Billboard Hot 100 (for chart dates during/after Aug 1958) unless otherwise noted]

6-7pm

OPENING THEME:  Good Old Rock ‘n’ Roll – Cat Mother & the All-Night Newsboys (1969, #29, produced by Jimi
Hendrix.)

Up first for our theme is the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart.  There are at least half a dozen ads using different songs, and here are 3 of them:

Shout Parts 1 & 2 - The Isley Brothers (1959, #47).

Gimme Some Lovin' - Spencer Davis Group (1967, #7).

Help Is On Its Way – Little River Band (1977, #14).

The next 3 videos feature The Rolling Stones for Ford, Acura and Joy by Dior Parfum.

Paint It Black – (1966, #1, 2 weeks).

Sympathy For The Devil – (1968, dnc; from the LP Beggars Banquet).

She's A Rainbow – (1968, #25).

The next 2 ads are for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary  Disorder) inhalers featuring a Fleetwood Mac song and a Jackson 5 song (remakes for the commercials).

Go Your Own Way – (1977, #10, 3 weeks).

ABC - (1970, #1, 2 weeks).

Winding down the first hour of "TV on the Radio" it's Michael Jackson for Capital One Savor Card, Three Dog Night for Big Lots and Screamin' Jay Hawkins for the NCAA Football Playoffs on December 29th (I could not find a video link for this, but it's likely to be on your TV, especially if you're watching college sports.)

 Don't Stop "Til You Get Enough - (1979, #1, 1 week).

Joy To The Word - (1971, #1, 6 weeks).

I Put A Spell On You - (1956, dnc).
