Tonight here on Remnants, we check out the chart sounds on the BB Hot 100, 44 years ago.  I was in high-45-collecting mode and glued to my AM radio at night, searching the dial to hear those hits over and over again!  It's prime 70's cut!
Another awesome Birthday Calendar coming up at 7:00, and
RR Trivia, with a chance to snag a $20 Gift Card from Luna Street Food...

A unique offering in the Corner tonight: the Quadrophonic Mix of "All I Know" by Art Garfunkel!  The stereo and mono mix of this song are different, but this is the Quad stereo version on a radio station promo 45, for those stations back in '73 gearing up for Quad (it was basically a failure, kind of like AM stereo in the 90's)  This was on the chart this date 44 years ago at #23

"River Deep, Mountain High" - Ike & Tina Turner - BB Hot 100 #88, 1966.

The failure of this single to chart higher in the U.S. drove producer Phil Spector into seclusion for 3 years!

"Nathan Jones" - The Supremes - BB Hot 100 #16, 1971.
Jeannie Terrell took over as the lead singer of The Supremes in 1970 after Diana Ross split for a solo career.

"Hold Me" - Fleetwood Mac - BB Hot 100 #4, 1982 - Of all the songs driven by the venerable rhythm section of Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, this is one of my favorites!  It just propels the song, especially in the first verse.  Wanna listen?

The "Godfather of British Blues" (with alumni Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie among many) charted only this on the Hot 100.  It was also a stereo 45 on Polydor Records, a rarity in 1969!

"Feels So Good" - Chuck Mangione - BB Hot 100 #4, 1978

"Good Lovin'" - The Young Rascals - BB Hot 100 #1, 1 week, 1966 - Led by the soulful vocals and hot organ playing of Felix Cavilere, this was the first of 3 Hot 100 #1's.  Check out
this video from the Ed Sullivan Show.  The vocals are overdubbed, but the performance is live, and check out Dino Danelli on drums.  Outta sight!  Love that false ending, too...

"Monday, Monday" - The Mamas & The Papas - BB Hot 100 #1, 3 weeks, 1966 - Featuring the late Denny Doherty on lead vocals.  Our third entrant in the "False Ending" sweepstakes!

"Rockin' Remnants Trivia answer:

The audio clue we gave was "Hooked On Classics", BB Hot 100 #10, 1981, by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.  Basically it was classical compositions over a disco beat.  What a concept!  But, like the "Stars On 45" series it was a big hit and spawned more "Hooked On Classics", "Hooked On Big Band", "Hooked On Swing" and the Jive Bunny And The Mixmasters singles later in the 80's.  Check out the image of the single for the list of "songwriters":

Congratulations going out to Robin calling from South Hill, who identified "Flight Of The Bumble Bee" by Rimsky-Korsakoff and won that $20 gift card to Luna Street Food.
