6-7pm

OPENING THEME:  Good Old Rock ‘n’ Roll – Cat Mother & the All-Night Newsboys (1969, #29, produced by Jimi Hendrix)

Please Please Please – James Brown & the Famous Flames (1956, did not chart at that time – and when it was re-released in 1964 with some “live” effects mixed in, it peaked at #95)

Baby You’re Right – Joe Tex (1961, did not chart.  James Brown did a slightly-altered cover version later the same year, which made it up to #49.)

The Bear – Johnny “Guitar” Watson (1959, dnc, written by Watson)

War Paint – Barry Mann (1960, dnc.  The following year, he’d have a Top Ten hit with “Who Put the Bomp”.)

 * The Ten Commandments of Love – Harvey & the Moonglows (1958, #22)

Cry Baby – Garnet Mimms (1963, #4, R&B #1.  Eight years later, Janis Joplin would do a cover version that would chart at #42 on the Billboard Hot 100.)

Poor Baby – The Cowsills (1968, #44)

Love Bells – Eddie Delmar (1961, dnc)

No One Can Love You Like I Do – Johnny Ferguson (1960, dnc)

At My Front Door – The El Dorados (1955, #17, R&B #1)

Bring Back Your Heart – The Del Vikings (1961, #101)

 * Earth Angel – The Penguins (1954, peaked at #8 in early 1955, R&B #1.  This was their only song to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.)

 * Send Me Some Lovin’ – Little Richard and His Band (1957, #54.  In 1963, Sam Cooke would bring this song to #13.)

 * Try – Janis Joplin (1970, #103)

 * Twistin’ the Night Away – Sam Cooke (1962, #9)

 * Fool on the Hill – Sergio Mendes & Brasil ’66 (1968, #6, a cover of the Beatles tune)

7-8pm

Garden Party – Rick Nelson & the Stone Canyon Band (1972, #6, Adult Contemporary #1)

Sweet Pea – Tommy Roe (1966, #8)

I Thank You – Sam & Dave (1968, #9)

We Just Disagree – Dave Mason (1977, #12)

 * Feelin’ Alright – Traffic (1968, #123, written by Dave Mason.  The song would make it into the Hot 100 four times, twice by Joe Cocker.  The highest-charting entry was Joe Cocker’s re-release in 1972, peaking at #33.)

I'm Not in Love 10cc (1975, #2 for three weeks, written by Graham Gouldman.  This song was innovative in its creation of a loop of multi-tracked vocal “ahh”s, sounding like a musical instrument rather than voices.)

We Gotta Get Out of This Place – Animals (1965, #13)

Wishin’ and Hopin’ – Dusty Springfield (1964, #6, written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David.  Dusty also sang a German translation of the song called “Warten und Hoffen” and an Italian version with different lyrics called “Stupido Stupido.)

I Can Help – Billy Swan (1974, #1 for two weeks, and Country #1)
