She Don’t Deserve You – Honey Bees [released as the b-side of a non-charting single on the Fontana label, “The Honey Bees” were actually The Cookies (who also recorded as the Cinderellas and the Four Pennies). Carole King was the arranger on this record (which was penned by her husband Gerry Goffin).]

 


Tell Me Why – The Beatles [track 2 from Side I of their smash soundtrack LP “A Hard Day’s Night.” This one was never released as a single in the States or the U.K.]


I Can See for Miles – The Who [10/67; #9 mono 45 version]

 


I Wonder – Butterflys [peaking at #117 on this date in 1965]


Can’t You Hear My Heartbeat – Herman’s Hermits [debuting at #85, headed all the way to a 2-week run at #2]


* In the Still of the Night – Five Satins [9/56; #24 (and re-released and charted in 1960 AND 1961]


* Fingertips (Part 2) – Stevie Wonder [6/63; his national chart debut spent 3 weeks at #1 Pop and 6 weeks at #1 R&B]


Uh-Oh (Part 2) – Nutty Squirrels [11/59, #14; piggybacking on the Chipmunks craze, both sides of this jazzy little novelty record scored on the Pop charts]

 


You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling – Righteous Brothers [in its second week at #2, then headed for a two-week run at #1, this record has the distinction of having gotten the most radio plays in the history of the modern world. Tonight we hear the mono 45 version.]
