It’s the great Billboard Hot 100 sounds of November, 1975, featuring such 70’s chart stalwarts as John Denver,  The Bee Gees, Wings,  ELO, The Ohio Players, Fleetwood Mac, and lesser lights like Silver Convention, Jigsaw, Pete Wingfield and The Gary Toms Empire with a neat Beatles cover version. Fly, Robin, Fly – Silver Convention – BB Hot 100 #2. This studio group from Germany sat atop the BB Hot 100 for 3 weeks with this dance-floor smash. This was also #1 on the BB R&B chart.

Let’s Do It Again – The Staple Singers – BB Hot 100 #10. BB Hot 100 #1 on 12/27/73.  Written and produced by Curtis Mayfield from the movie of the same name starring Bill Cosby, Sidney Poitier and Jimmie "JJ" Walker. 

 


Nights On Broadway (45 version) – The Bee Gees – BB Hot 100 #11


Miracles (45 version) – Jefferson Starship – BB Hot 100 #14. Marty Balin’s comeback with the group he co-founded peaked at #3.

 

My Little Town – Simon & Garfunkel – BB Hot 100 #15. Another comeback record on the chart on this date!  Peaked at #9.


Eighteen With A Bullet – Pete Wingfield – BB Hot 100 #18. On this date in 1975, this song was 18 with a bullet on the BB Hot 100!  It would peak at #15 next week, and Mr. Wingfield was never heard on the pop chart again after that.


Calypso – John Denver – BB Hot 100 #20. Two-sided single along with “I’m Sorry”, peaked at #2 on the BB Hot 100.


SOS – Abba – BB Hot 100 #23. The only chart hit where both the title and artist are palindromes.


Venus And Mars Rockshow (45 version) – Wings – BB Hot 100 #27

Finger Poppin’ Time – Hank Ballard And The Midnighters, 1960.  Hank wrote and recorded the original version of “The Twist” in 1959.  It only charted after Chubby Checker released his version.  Chubby hit #1 twice with “The Twist”; 1960 and 1962.  Hank was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. The other Midnighters were inducted in 2012.

 

                             

It Takes Two – Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston, 1967



You’re No Good – Betty Everett, 1964.  Betty’s first Hot 100 chart single peaked at #51.  10 years later, Linda Ronstadt took her cover version to #1.

 


I Walk On Gilded Splinters – Marsha Hunt, 1969.  Cover version of Dr. John Creaux (Mac Rebbenack) composition from his first LP Gris-Gris.

Sing A Song – Earth, Wind, and Fire – BB Hot 100 #73, the highest debuting single this week.  This would peak at #5.


Wake Up Everybody (Part One) – Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes – BB Hot 100 #82.  This would peak at #12.


Drive My Car – Gary Toms Empire – BB Hot 100 #84.  This would peak at #69.  Written by Lennon/McCartney, but never released as a single by the Beatles.  Also charted as a single for Bob Kuban in 1966, peaking at #93.

 

Love Hurts (45 version) – Nazareth – BB Hot 100 #95.  This Everly Brothers cover peaked at #8.  The late Jim Capaldi also charted with this in 1975, peaking at #97.



Bad Blood – Neil Sedaka – BB Hot 100 #29. BB Hot 100 #1 on 10/11/75, 3 weeks, features Elton John on backing vocal.


Love Rollercoaster – Ohio Players – BB Hot 100 #34.


Fox On The Run – The Sweet – BB Hot 100 #35.


I Write The Songs – Barry Manilow – BB Hot 100 #38. Barry wrote most of his songs, but not this one (Bruce Johnston [Beach Boys] penned this #1 song, 1/17/1976).

 

Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You’re Going To) – Diana Ross – BB Hot 100 #39. From the movie of the same name starring Ross.  This peaked at #1, 1/24/1976.

I Want You Back (Alive) – Graham Parker And The Rumour, 1979 Bubbled Under #103.  12” promo released with live version from the radio only promo “Live Sparks”; now available on CD.  Yes, this is the J5 song cover version.

 

Funk #49 – James Gang (with Joe Walsh on vocals and guitar), 1970 BB Hot 100 #59.


Country Boy (You Got Your Feet In L.A.) – Glen Campbell – BB Hot 100 #40.


Rock And Roll All Nite (Live) – Kiss – BB Hot 100 #44.  The Studio version 45 of this was a pop flop, peaking at #68.  The Live version peaked at #12, and became an anthem for KISS fans.

 

Walk Away From Love – David Ruffin – BB Hot 100 #58.


Just Too Many People – Melissa Manchester – BB Hot 100 #61


Louisiana Lou And Three Card Monty John – The Allman Brothers Band – BB Hot 100 #67.  This two-sided single by the Allmans, along with Nevertheless, peaked this week.

 

Over My Head (45 version) – Fleetwood Mac – BB Hot 100 #69.  The first 45 by the revamped Mac (with Buckingham and Nicks) peaked at #20, giving this former British Blues Band their first pop hit (and the rest is history).

 

Come And Get Your Love – Roger Daltrey – BB Hot 100 #68.  Roger’s second charting single peaked this week.  Different song than the song of the same name by Redbone.


Never Been Any Reason (45 version) – Head East – BB Hot 100 #81.  A mid-70’s Album Rock favorite, this peaked on the pop chart at #68.

 

Evil Woman – Electric Light Orchestra – BB Hot 100 #77.





CLOSING THEME:  Sleepwalk – Santo & Johnny (1959, #1 for two weeks)
